📍 The Run Up Highway 68 North
To get there from our cabin property, you'll head straight up Highway 68 North out of Turtletown. It's a gorgeous, winding asphalt run that cuts across the high ridges separating the Ocoee and Hiwassee basins before dropping down toward Monroe County.
Once you leave the main highway and dive onto the back lanes, the road transforms into gravel Forest Service paths.
Local tip: Depending on which direction your GPS guides you down the final ridge roads, you may encounter minor vehicle water crossings where the road flows directly through shallow creek beds. Trucks and SUVs handle it like a breeze, but lower sedans will want to take it slow and watch the water depth lines.

🥾 Trail Footprint & Terrain Breakdown
- Total Distance: 1.2 miles out-and-back.
- Trail Type: Primitive forest track. Mostly downhill on the way in, which means an uphill pull on the way back out.
- Difficulty: Moderate (short, but features some slick mud spots and a brief elevation punch).
- Time Investment: About 45 minutes to an hour of walking, plus whatever time you spend soaking in the views.
The trail dives off the mountain road shelf and heads down through a thick mountain canopy of rhododendrons and native hardwoods. The path can get slicker than a wet river rock after a steady mountain downpour, so we highly recommend wearing solid hiking boots with aggressive tread lines rather than smooth gym sneakers. As you reach the baseline of the gorge, the trees break open to reveal a massive, wide block of cascading mountain water.
💦 Exploring the Multi-Tiered Pools
The waterfall itself drops down a series of wide, angled limestone steps, pooling perfectly at the base of each level. It's an awesome spot to kick back on a flat bank boulder, unpack a trail snack, and watch the water churn. Because this site sits further north away from the heavily packed Ocoee rafting hubs, you'll often have a much quieter wilderness experience compared to the standard tourist-trap parks down along the main state lines.
