Beyond the Porch
A few favorite spots for eatin', hikin', and explorin' the neighborhood.
Our local favorite! The chef makes amazing food. Be sure to check the board when you get there for the dayβs specials.
Their hours can be a little weird and unpredictable, but man, it is worth the gamble! Tammy's serves up incredible ice cream and milkshakes that are easily the absolute best in Turtletownβif not the entire world. When that open sign is lit, you've got to pull over and treat yourself to a shake.
A beautiful hike to see a double waterfall. This is about a 4-mile loop and takes an average of 2 hours to walk. It is considered a βhardβ hike on the rating scales, so wear good boots!
Take a nostalgic journey along the beautiful Toccoa River through the North Georgia countryside. The historic train departs right from downtown Blue Ridge and winds its way to the sister cities of McCaysville and Copperhill, giving you a wonderful layover to eat and shop before the return trip. Itβs an absolute classic mountain experience!

Visit the site of the old Burra Burra Mine. Be sure to check their website ahead of time for their official grand reopening date, updated hours, and admission prices.
~12 mins 212 Burra Burra St, Ducktown, TNIf you're here between late March and October, you've got to hit the river. We recommend Ocoee Rafting in Ducktown or RaftOne in Copperhill. (And don't worry, the rapids churn rain or shine!)
A fantastic local spot right on the river! The folks here make you feel right at home the second you walk through the door. The Waterfront Bar features a great atmosphere, cold drinks, and an outdoor deck overlooking the water. Itβs a perfect place to kick back, grab a bite, and relax after a long day of white water rafting or exploring downtown.
Ocoee River Distilling has a great spot on the river in Copperhill. Right across the street, Buck Bald Brewing offers excellent craft beers. Both are in the walkable downtown setting and frequently host fantastic local food trucks on site.
Stand with one foot in Tennessee and the other in Georgia! These historic sister cities share a seamless, walkable downtown area divided only by a blue line painted right across the street. Itβs a fantastic spot for exploring local boutiques, enjoying riverside dining, and experiencing mountain culture where two states meet.
For Mexican, most locals prefer El Rio in Copperhill. For something unique, try the Shawarma at Meraki Souq or a treat from Rum Cake Lady. You can even stand on the GA/TN state line right outside the Rum Cake Lady!
~16 mins Copperhill & McCaysvilleWant to catch a round of golf during your mountain getaway? This scenic 9-hole course is nestled right in the rolling hills of the Copper Basin and features dual tees so you can easily play a full 18-hole round. It offers a wonderfully laid-back, welcoming atmosphere with great mountain views and very affordable green fees.
A Blue Ridge staple and an absolute must-visit. Mercier Orchards offers incredible tractor-pulled farm tours, seasonal U-Pick fruit crops, hard cider tastings, and a world-famous bakery. At certain times, they even let you plant your own tree!
Ruby Falls in Chattanooga is a short day trip well worth it for the underground waterfall. Dollywood is a bit further out across the mountains, making it a perfect overnight excursion or dedicated full-day trip.
